2/27/2023 – I would like to be an innovative educator, and I am not there, yet. That is the “power of yet” in a growth mindset – knowing that I will get there because I do want to create a learning environment where student work is meaningful and authentic to them. Not only do I need to think of creative ways to share my plans and ideas with others on a regular basis, but I need to think of creative ways for students to get their ideas and their work communicated outside of themselves. It doesn’t need to be just the teacher and fellow students reading and seeing their work, but a wider audience that can appreciate their ideas and needs them. For example, I was at our district science fair for secondary students (8th -12th grade) in January, and some of those projects were amazing! My thought was who knows about these innovations? Is it just the community of judges, their teachers, and maybe their parents. There needs to be a place where their innovation can be shared with a much wider audience.
