9/20/23 – My collaboration group and I looked through and shared various resources that pertain to Action Research and ones that pertain to our innovation plans. Some of my peers are using surveys as a part of their measurement like mine. I placed the following links to my resources on our group collaboration Google document and am placing them below so others in my class can utilize them, too.
There are a few resources that support my hypothesis that speaking will influence writing and are unique in that they come from other countries. I appreciate this since my innovation plan centers around Emergent Bilinguals academic needs. Then, there are a couple of other resources that discuss Action Research itself.
Ebrianti, N. (2018). The correlation between students’ speaking and writing achievement at seventh semester students of english. LANGUAGE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITY OF MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG.https://eprints.umm.ac.id/38447

Rausch, P. (2015). The relationship between english speaking and writing proficiency and its
implication for instruction. St. Cloud State University.
https://repository.stcloudstate.edu/engl_etds/34/
This article discusses the research behind the correlation of speaking ability with EB learners with their writing ability. It goes through the premise along with the review of the literature based on academic writing and the quality of ESL instruction required. A study conducted to test this correlation was illustrated and examined. The study was deemed too small for accuracy but underlined the need for continuous research in this area since EBs do need intentional ESL support for quality academic speaking and writing.
Martirosyan, N,, Hwang, E., and Reubenson, W. (2015). Impact of english proficiency on academic performance of international students. Journal of International Students.
This journal article looked at the number of languages a student spoke versus the student’s academic proficiency in all domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing. It was based on a study done with college students in Louisiana. The study found that students with at least three languages including English as their third outperformed students that spoke only two languages. It supported the need for further research in this area.
