When we look at the latest news, our Emergent Bilingual (EB) population of students is increasing daily in Texas, and we need to create innovative ways to connect with them in the learning. I am hopeful that my work in my Innovation Plan along with those of my colleagues in Applied Digital Learning will be able to bring about innovative change that does this not only for these students, but for all of our students in this 21st century of education.
Presently, I look forward to publishing an article in an educational newsletter that supports other educators in their work with Emergent Bilinguals. Here is a link to the final draft of my article: A Blended Approach to Personalized Learning in Science with Emergent Bilingual Students.
In focusing on my work in 5317, I began with an outline of what I believed was an important piece of my work to share with other educators. Science is a content area where many EBs need support along with other struggling students. I took that work and framed the outline of my article around it: Blended Learning in Science with Emergent Bilingual Students.
As an Instructional Coach, I try to stay current on the latest information in regard to education. I read Edutopia, EdWeek, and Education Week regularly through my district email Inbox. It keeps me on point with the topics at the forefront in education and give me resources to use with my teachers and colleagues. Thus, I chose a couple of them for publishing my article. The information for their criteria is at the end of my outline for my article.
After creating my outline for my publication, I delved into creating a rough draft that I put out for feedback/feedforward. In this rough draft, I share a story about my work, what was successful, what to keep in mind, and the various digital resources that made this work possible and effective. Here is a link to that rough draft: A Blended Approach to Personalized Learning in Science with Emergent Bilingual Students Once I shared it, I used my colleagues support to update my work and make my final draft more cohesive. I also focused on the templates and the exemplars that were provided in my course to fine-tune my piece.
To promote the topic of my article, I created a video through Canva and loaded it into YouTube for viewing. I hoped to capture the audience’s heart with a compelling question to evoke the desire to solve a problem that most of us have as educators when working with EB students. With my submission of my final draft on this page, I also completed a blog post for my Contribution to Learning Reflection for 5317 . My blogs also feed into my home page at angeldesch.com for my ePortfolio where I love to share what I am learning in my coursework along with how the work on this degree is growing me as an education professional.
